Knowledge Base · Alerts & escalation
What happens if nobody acknowledges an alert?
IRIS keeps escalating automatically — it never just stops and waits for someone to notice. If the first responder doesn’t reply within the configured window, the alert moves to the next person in the on-call order, and the next, for up to around 20 rounds. Nothing about this requires a human to be watching a dashboard; the escalation itself is the safety net.

What happens if the whole on-call chain is exhausted with no acknowledgement?
The alert reaches the end of its configured escalation rounds without a resolution. It stays visible as an unresolved alert in your dashboard and audit trail rather than silently disappearing — you can see exactly who was tried, in what order, and when.
Can I cap how many alerts one recipient gets in a burst, so they don’t get flooded?
Yes — a per-recipient hourly cap can suppress repeat noise from the same source while still guaranteeing the very first notice of any new incident always gets through, so the cap can’t hide a genuinely new problem.
